Mr. Lawrence graduated from University of California at Davis with a double major in music and economics. He began studying piano at the age of four and violin at the age of six. He later concentrated in violin after he moved to the California from Hong Kong. During his college years, he studied both baroque and modern violin with Michael Sand, a founding member and the first musical director of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra of San Francisco, focusing on early and baroque music. He was a member of both the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra and Baroque Ensemble. He also pursued full musicianship training including composition, conducting, history, listening, and theory during his years at UC Davis.

 

His experience teaching piano and violin began when he was 15 in Hong Kong. After he moved to California, he gave private lessons to students aged 5 to adult in the Bay Area and Davis. He also taught as a string assistant and string tutor at Waldorf School and Marguerite Montgomery Elementary Schools in Davis. In that capacity, he helped students using concentrated one to one instruction and practice if they fell behind in class or orchestra.

 

Mr. Lawrence has effectively assisted many students in his 6 years of teaching. He can patiently and flexibly arrange his lessons’ speed and materials to the capability of each student to make sure they learn, understand, practice, play, and perform on their musical instrument well and successfully.
