Ms. Mayra is a violinist based in East Los Angeles. She is the Concertmaster of the East Los Angeles Community Orchestra, and member of the ELAC Mariachi. She has performed and recorded with various groups all with different styles from Metal, Baroque to Mariachi music in the city of L.A.
During her time at East Los Angeles College (ELAC) she has accomplished many things. Academically, she has grown in the strings program, from student violinist to concertmaster. She is also the music theory and violin tutor. Mayra is now a peer mentor for the music program at ELAC. She is a knowledgeable guide, role model and advocate for new students.
Through her years of teaching Ms. Meza knows how to adjust her lesson plans to her students' personal capabilities, goals and learning speed. Her curriculum includes ear training, music theory as well as a combination of traditional violin studies and Suzuki instruction. She is a firm believer in the capability of music to bring about a sense of community, social change and transform people. It can bring out the best in people such as confidence, critical thinking, social and communication skills.
During her spare time Ms. Meza likes to compose and take on bicycle routes along the Los Angeles River bed; from Griffith Park to Long Beach. She is currently finishing her undergrad music studies at ELAC’s Music Program and plans to transfer to a California university and acquire her bachelors in Music Performance and Education.
Ms. Meza is fluent in English and Spanish and is flexible teaching both children and adults.
