Makeup Lessons: What Happens If I Need to Miss a Lesson?
Some of you have had questions about how our group makeup lessons work. If you need to miss a lesson, you can now attend one of our group makeup classes held on the weekends. You can view the schedule on our Makeup Lesson page.
Please note that canceled lessons no longer become "credits" towards the next month's invoice. Instead, if you miss a lesson, you can "make up" the lesson by attending a group class on the weekend. Classes are scheduled at various times on both Saturday and Sunday. All of our teachers are scheduled to teach group makeup classes, so you can even sign up for a makeup lesson with your current teacher! There is no limit to how many makeup lessons you can take and they never expire. If you already have your private lesson on the weekend, you will just have a super music weekend with 2 music classes that weekend!
Each class is 45 minutes in length and has a maximum of 6 students in a class. During a class, students can expect to do music activities such as perform for each other and receive peer comments, complete music theory exercises as a group, or ensemble playing.
Just let us one of our office team members know in advance which lesson you will miss and they can help sign you up for a group makeup class. Or, you can even sign up yourself at www.opusmusicschool.com/makeup. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to visit us at the front desk or call/text us at 626-961-2625.
Welcome to the 100 Club!
Hurray! We’ve reached the end of Opus Music School’s 100 Day Practice Challenge. From February 1st to June 1st, 2019, students were given the task of practicing their instruments for 100 days! Even students who passed the 50 day milestone received a prize - a free Opus book bag!
Putting aside time to practice everyday is difficult, which is why we’re proud of these student's efforts. We would like to acknowledge the 28 students that completed the full 100 days of practicing. Our winners celebrated at a boba and dessert party at I Heart Boba on 6/17.
Thank you to I Heart Boba for sponsoring the drinks, toppings and waffle desserts! If you weren’t able to complete the 100 day practice challenge this time, don’t be discouraged, we have a new challenge coming up this fall! In the meantime, keep practicing!

I am happy to announce that Opus Music School has partnered with world renowned music publisher Piano Adventures. I have been teaching with this method for over 10 years and have been a fan for a long time.
With this partnership, our school will be pilot testing some of Piano Adventure's new educational products (like the group piano test described above)! Feedback from our students and parents will be used to develop and refine their products before being released to the public.
Opus Music School is the very first music school in the U.S. to have this opportunity! We are excited to be a part of piano education development and that our students will be one of the first to try new music education products.
Status of our expansion: A person told me once, whatever budget and time frame you have for a building construction project, double it. And that's what it's looking like! In case you missed the news last month, we are planning on building more space by securing additional unused space from our neighbor tenant. We are still in the planning phases of our new construction project and working with an architect to secure city and building permits. The primary purpose is to build group classroom space to provide our students with more music education options. I'll keep you updated through this newsletter!
Very truly yours,
Mrs. Theresa Cheng
