July Student of the Month

Student Name: Benjamin Lopez

Age: 9 years old

Instrument: Piano

Teacher's Name: Mr. Troy

School Name and Grade: Ceres Elementary / 4th grade

 1. What do you like the most about taking music lessons at Opus Music School?

It’s a cool place and Mr. Troy makes it a lot of fun.

2. What do you like the most about your teacher?
Mr. Troy is funny and caring.

3. What is your favorite piece to play and why?
My favorite piece is Yankee Doodle, because it is lots of fun!

4. What challenges have you faced when learning music and how did you overcome it?
When I first started, learning the names of the keys was the hardest part for me. But with lots of practice and my mom’s help, it became much easier.

5. What is your goal with music?
I want to become a famous composer. I also love to sing.

It's been a busy month! I had the pleasure of attending the Music Teachers Association of California Convention on 6/28-7/2/19 in Santa Clara, California. Besides attending various teaching seminars, I was also able to see one of Opus Music School's former students, Beatrice Sun, perform piano at a state honors recital.

Upon return, I performed in a solo classical piano concert at Brookdale Senior Living Home in San Dimas on 7/7. This was a donation concert to support the residence of my childhood piano teacher, Janelle Poull.

Immediately after, we started some remodeling of our school, which includes a new group room and a new waiting area. We should be done by the end of July. Thank you for your patience with our temporary waiting room and looking forward to providing a new waiting area and more music education options to you and your children. Thanks for your support!

Very truly yours,
Mrs. Theresa Cheng
