Mini Pop Stars Band Class (5-7 Years) Starting Soon

Do you know a 5, 6, or 7 year old who likes music? The Mini Pop Stars band class is now accepting new students! If you want to start your child in music and get exposure to different musical instruments, this is the class for you.

Kids will rotate on 4 instruments: piano, singing, drums, and guitar in a group band class once a week. They will learn to read music, plan on actual instruments, perform in a concert...overall a fun musical experience! Also, there is no instrument purchase required! We supply all the instruments and materials in the class.

Class Times (starts 1st week of October):

  • Thursday 3:30 - 4:15 pm

  • Sunday 11:00 - 11:45 am

Get $30 off your registration via this newsletter. Go to the Opus Group Class Registration Page and use promo code: popstars30 (expires 9/30/19). We can only accept the first 6 sign-ups in each class. Our Thursday class only has 2 spots left so sign up today!

 Turn In Your Practice Sheets!

Our newest Team Practice Challenge just started and will last until 11/3/19! Students have been divided into teams based on their lesson day.

Log how many minutes you practice each week for 8 weeks. Turn in a new practice sheet weekly. If you need more practice sheets, please ask the front desk.

Track each team's progress on the leaderboard in our lobby! The team with the most total minutes practiced will win a dessert party catered to Opus Music School on your lesson day in November!

Save the Date For Our Next Annual Recital

Our next general recital date has been set for Sunday, January 26, 2020 at the Hacienda Heights Community Center. The theme for this recital is "Around the World," featuring music of various ethnic styles or composers from other countries.

If this will be your first recital, don't worry! It is fun and a great way to get performance experience on a concert stage! Students of any age and level who are taking private lessons at Opus Music School are welcome. There is a performer fee of $20 per student (per instrument).

For your convenience, registration for this recital will be on a new online self-enrollment system. Students can register and pay for the recital online and select their preferred recital time (first come first serve). Registration will open on 11/1. More details will be provided in the October newsletter.

Playing a piece in the "Around the World" theme is optional but encouraged since it gives our students an opportunity to learn music of different styles or genres to expand their music repertoire. Some of our prior themes include Disney, classic rock, pop, movie music, classical, and more! Keep joining our future recitals to learn more styles of music!

A Note from the Founder

I am happy to announce that due to the success of our 2019 Opus Summer Tour Recital held this past July 2019 in downtown LA, our Summer Tour program will continue next year in the summer of 2020! We are still in process of confirming a fantastic location and our destination will be announced at a later date. What city are we going to? Hint: It's in another state!

Stay tuned!

Very truly yours,
Mrs. Theresa Cheng

Follow America's Got Talent With Me

I am so thrilled that blind/autistic pianist Kodi Lee won this season of America's Got Talent! He was one of my picks and was a fan favorite from the beginning. I am in a Piano Pedagogy Facebook group with his piano teacher, Yiyi Ku (from Lake Elsinore, CA), and all along she has posted wonderful and touching videos of their classical piano lessons together. Check them out on YouTube. Here is one example:
