The Colburn School is one of the top performing arts schools located across the street from the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles.  Thayer Hall (pictured here) is an outstanding, professional concert hall facility and will be an exclusive opportunity for our music students.  The concert hall features a 9 foot Steinway concert grand piano and excellent acoustics.

The Opus Summer Tour takes the place of our summer recital and our goal is to visit a new venue every summer.  It will allow students to gain performance experience in world-class concert hall venues, and provide your child and family a musical memory to cherish.

Please read the following carefully to ensure a smooth registration process.

How do I register for the Colburn Thayer Hall recital?

Registration will be on a first-come first-serve basis, and will begin on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 8:00 AM.  Limited spots are available and once full, registration will close and a waiting list will form.  Registration is all done online by students/parents.  At the time of registration, the performer fee must be paid in full, and a signed Enrollment Form and Student Commitment Form must be submitted.

How much will it cost?

The performer fee is $80 per performer, which includes a professional 8x10 photo on stage and an audience ticket.  Additional audience tickets can be purchased at $15 per ticket from the Opus front desk.  


Prior to registering, please ensure that you are available to perform on the recital date because the registration fee is non-refundable.  No exceptions. 

Who can participate?

-Any student of Opus Music School at any age and level can participate in the following instruments: piano, voice, acoustic guitar, and violin.  We're sorry, the venue is not able to accommodate drums, microphones, or amplifiers.  Drum students or students who require additional equipment are instead able to participate in our Open Mic Night that will be held on August 19, 2019.

-Account is in current and good standing with Opus Music School.

-Must take continuous lessons at Opus Music School from now until the concert date.

*Participation is at Opus Music School's discretion and we reserve the right to refuse participation for non-compliance with School Policies and/or standards of conduct.

What pieces can be performed?

Performance pieces can be discussed with the student's current teacher.  Students can perform 1 or 2 pieces, as long as the total time does not exceed 5 minutes.  With this type of facility, pieces in the classical genre are recommended, but not required.

What happens if I stop lessons before the concert date?

Should you discontinue lessons or take a break in your lessons at the School prior to the recital, your spot will be forfeited and offered to a student on the waiting list.  The registration fee will not be refunded.  Continuous lessons from now until the concert date are required for participation.

What else should I know?

-You will not need to know the names of your repertoire piece(s) at the registration date of 3/17/19.  The piece names will be due in early June. 

-Students must provide their own transportation to and from the event.

-Performers are requested to dress in formal attire.
